About
Ruth’s Sociology Resources belongs to me - Ruth Morton
The primary purpose of this site is to serve anyone who is teaching or learning sociology. I couldn’t find what I wanted for my students on the internet so I decided to create it myself. I then found that both students and teachers from outside my college were using the site and wanted help and advice and Ruth’s Sociology Resources was born.
I’ve been teaching A-level Sociology for 5 years and I am currently a full-time postgraduate student at the University of Warwick doing a PhD in Sociology, researching home education in the UK. In 2005-06 I did an MA in Social Research, my dissertation research looked at the lives and experiences of sixth form girls. From this September I’m taking a break from A-level teaching in order to devote enough time to my PhD, but I’m staying up to date by going on INSET courses and reading up on the new specifications which will be introduced in September 2008.
I’ve been teaching since 2002, mostly A-level Sociology, but also some GCSE Sociology, along with smatterings of Geography and Health & Social Care. Prior to that I worked for Ofsted Early Years for a short while and in an EBD school and a secure unit. All this has given me a wide range of experience which I enjoy bringing to my teaching.
My undergraduate degree is in Sociology and it’s given me a lasting love for the subject. My research interests lie mainly in the Sociology of Education and spill over into the Sociology of Childhood, but I tend to take an interest in most parts of Sociology - after all society is just too fascinating to ignore!

Just wanted to comment on how excellent the website. I have been teaching RE for four years but was trained as a sociology teacher. I only just started the subject off this year at AS level and spent the whole of last summer looking for decent websites and this is by far the best, particuarly the links to relevant articles that you post monthly!! Thank you

Amy,
Glad you find the site helpful. Sorry about the lack of Sociology of Religion material - I’m afraid it’s an area of Sociology that I don’t know well and have not taught so it is unlikely that there will ever be much on it on this site - sorry.
